Coral Coast
Viti Levu Fiji Islands ![]() Large Picture Large resorts, museums, tropical forest and river tours ... Click an icon in the Map of Coral Coast for more pictures There are a dozen large beach resorts along the Coral Coast including the Shangri-La Fijian Resort, above, on a small island connected by land-bridge to the coastal highway. Gorgeous Natadola Beach is one of the finest on Viti Levu with excellent swimming, body surfing and some beach breaks nearby. The public beach can get crowded on weekends and school holidays. Robinson Crusoe Island is a popular day tour destination with a pleasant beach front and lots of organized activities including reef snorkelling. View to Cuvu and the surrounding countryside form the Fijian Resort. Note this side of Sigatoka the countryside is dry with grassy hills. The beach at Cuvu outside of Sigatoka. The bay here can either offer good body surfing or by flat still. The Sigatoka Sandunes National Park offers raw beauty - wind swept beaches, rolling sand dunes and visible pottery sherds dated to 3000 years ago. Aerial view of the Sigatoka Sandunes. This fragile ecosystem encompasses 5-km of coastline with sand dunes rising to more than 20-metres. The National Park of Fiji have an information booth here and maintain regulated trails. Sigatoka Town is predominantly an Indian town with temples and a mosque, as well as small Indian shops and restaurants. Roads either side of Sigatoka lead up the Sigatoka River Valley into fertile agriculture land with picturesque rural scenery. Tavuni Hill Fort in the hills above Sigatoka Town. One of the great things about staying on the Coral Coast is numerous attractions and day tours in the area. Thatch bure in Vatukarasa Village along the Coral Coast. Villages can be visited on tours where guests take part in Yaqona ceremonies - the national drink. The Queens Highway is mostly a single lane highway with many hazards including wandering cattle, dozy pedestrians, deep potholes and dangerous motorists. The beach at Korotogo is of coarse sand and offers little privacy from the coastal road. Moreover, the lagoon is shallow with dead coral making it unsuitable for swimming or snorkelling. Wild beach along the Coral Coast. This is a good spot for wind surfing especially in the afternoon. The beach in front of Tambua Sands. Passages in the reef along the Coral Coast can cause dangerous currents. Beach front at the Hideaway Resort. The beach here is good for swimming and there is good snorkelling and surfing in the offshore passage, although currents can be dangerous. Beach at the Naviti Resort looks picturesque although at high tide there is little beach to enjoy. There's a lovely waterfall at Biausevu about 5km inland from the highway at Korotogo. The picturesque beach at the Beachouse. As with most of the Coral Coast, the shallow lagoon is neither good for swimming nor snorkelling. The village of Serua takes up most of this offshore island, as seen from Waidroka Bay. |
