Rotuma lies in the south west pacific, 450km north of Fiji. Its closest neighbour is Niulakita in Tuvalu, 350km to the north. Ahau Government station is the admisnistrative centre for Rotuma. The island has its own elected council.<br>
<br>
The beaches on Rotuma are amongst the most picturesque in the entire South Pacific. The stunning beach of Losa is a sacred place being the departure point for spirits to the after world. The beach at Vaioa is one of the nicest in the Pacific. Fine white sand, leaning coconut palms and large Hifo trees make this a great spot for a day out.<br>
<br>
The natural stone bridge of Kota is one of Rotumans unusual features. In 1971, the village of Juju was devastated by a tidal wave that crashed over the island of Solkope. Ancient grave on a hill outside of Juju Village. These large stones were carried from the coast. Hatana, the sacred island where Raho, founder of Rotuma, is buried. Hofliua Island is split in two halves with a large boulder lodged in the middle.<br>
